Ontario Halts Anti-Tariff TV Ads Following Trump’s Trade Talks Suspension
Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced the cessation of anti-tariff television advertisements starting Monday, following the suspension of trade negotiations by U.S. President Donald Trump. The decision came after discussions with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, aiming to recalibrate bilateral trade discussions.
The ad campaign, which repurposed Ronald Reagan's rhetoric to critique American tariffs, will conclude after airing during the World Series opener between the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers. Ford defended the initiative, stating it successfully engaged key U.S. stakeholders on tariff impacts.
Trump accused Canada of deploying fabricated Reagan footage in the commercials, escalating tensions. The advertisements aired prominently during Game 1 of the World Series, coinciding with the Blue Jays' 11-4 lead in the seventh inning.
